Just after watching this video comparing the current model UK CTR hatch to the JDM CTR, which is a saloon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXpMLVcbQXw

A car that apparently comes within one second of the NSX on a track in Japan? Serious kit, 17-inch brake discs at the front, and the front brake discs off my car at the back:shocked:, dbl wishbones all around, 222bhp. But the look? I dunno, it looks fine for the Hybrid, but I'm not sure it gets away with it...

Bonker quick, bonkers money, looks better than the hatch for sure. UK version should've been this in hatch form.

That is impressive. They are very very expensive here for now though

Read an article in Evo about them. They reckoned they are better than the hatch.

And yes I bloody would.

Carlsson was telling me about some mate of his going to spend over 40 grand on a near new, even more hardcore Type-RR from Japan:shocked:

I read on the EVO website that this one is more powerfull than the hatch. Its pushins 220bhp. I see one regularly and was at a track day with the same car. Its really nice looking and bloody fast to.

Phenomenal car for a front driver, would more than give an S2000 a run for its money. Certainly better than the Euro Civic Type-R, the real question is, is it better than the RenaultSport Megane R26?

do they have a six speed box?

The JDM cars are usually more balls out that the Euro one's that we get...
Apart from spec levels, some have better mechanical specs. The big difference between our Euro Civic and the JDM one is that the Japs get full independant suspension all around where as Europe gets cheapo "it will do" torson bars rear suspension. And the Jappo's get hydraulically assisted power steering whereas Euro land gets electrically assisted (less feel).......

And yeah, it is some cracker of a car !!

I wouldn't buy one of these for reasons including:

There is so much else out there for the same money
No manufacturers warranty
It's still a Civic at the end of it. (no offence to Civic drivers!)

To put this discussion into real-world perspective, how much would it cost to put one on your driveway?

not sure about that one but will find out.you could have an 01 integra type r(new shape) for 7500euro on your driveway, not vrtd.

Probably the same as about five or six 300ZX's I reckon.

They were in the region of 50k euro OTR about 6 months ago. I would expect with the VRT changes you can add another few k to that.

Seen 3 of these close up in the flesh now, including one at a track day. I dunno, my initial impression is still the same, their kinda awkward looking. Too many lines and doors for a suppossed sleek look. But at the same time, I kinda like it. Mainly because I like the leftfield stuff that other people hate :P but it is cool, and definitely quick. Bottom line though, could never justify buying one, both for the price, and the fact that you'd never get warranty on it. I was talking to a few of the guys from Honda Ireland on a trip to Honda Uk recently though, and they love it too, but they say they can do nothing about warranty, and so wouldnt touch it.

Theres been a couple of recalls for the civic 4dr as it is already, and numerous for the civic 5dr, being a new owner of one of these over here you'd never even know of recalls, and if you did, you'd probably have fun trying to get them to sort it for you here.

That looks absolutly stunning, I am a big fan of the carbon with the white,

I wouldnt say that it was over priced, it is a nicer shape & the styling is a lot nicer than the spaceship model, more powerful car and a some nice aftermarket touches.

Now how can I fund that one :pirate:

Lots of vtec kicking in Yo.

Actually no VTEC Kicking in yo! ... these are ivtec so it does not kick in at a predetermined RPM but is progressive afaik? (could be wrong)

The car looks good... just not in white! .. I dont know why japs insist on white. (and white alloys :'( )

Dark grey with black alloys would look sweet and a lot more aggresive! Nice car alright for a 4dr FWD Saloon

ivtec = variable cam timing + variable lift

The timing changes the amount of advance by rotating the cam shaft relative to TDC. At a certain RPM the variable lift mechanism shifts to the "big" cam and vtec does indeed kick in, yo. However it is a very smooth transition that you can hear more than feel.

VTEC politely nudges in yo!

Cheers i knew it was something like that

JHMEG
12-11-2008, 03:53 PM
Put simpler i-vtec allows the phase between intake and exhaust cam to be altered. Idea being that the curves are smoother and when vtec does kick in yo! it's not really that noticeable, as bp says. Well that's what i-vtec used to mean, and can mean anything now. eg the newish R-series engines are being called i-vtec but have only a single cam.

afaik white is their national colour and/or international motorsport colour

True. Comes from their national flag which is also mostly white.

Yes in the days of each country having an official racing colour (Germany- silver, UK- Green, Italy- red, etc), Japan's was white. This colour scheme per country was dropped when they started destroying cars with advertisement.

As we all know British Racing Green comes from the Ireland bit of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

Aye, but we got an orange band on our cars to differentiate, IIRC

i-VTEC does indeed kick in yo. Certainly does in mine anyway (cold air intake), and can be clearly heard and felt. It is, however, smother then a b series.

I remember hearing somewhere that white was used by street racers in japan as they focused on upgrading the performance parts on their cars rather than aesthetics and as such it was to indicate that the car was "work in progress" or something like that

Kind of: apparently the Gordon Bennett cup was to be held in GB in the early 1900's, but as motorsport was banned there at the time, it was hosted in Ireland. It might have been something to do with the colours red, white and blue already having been taken by America, Germany (who later changed colour to silver to save weight) and France respectively.
