I was there at lunch time today with a bunch of other super-wealthy uber rich fat-cat neo-conservative capitalist banker *******s (we all earn more than €60,000).

Anyway, nice lunch, but what I really want to talk about is the Bread and Butter Pudding with Vanilla Cream. Possibly the nicest dessert I've had in ages.

TO DIE FOR IF YOU ARE A DESSERT PERSON.

I had a very bizzare experience in Bentley's a few months back; without going into detail it was like everyone important went home and left the restaurant in the hands of Jonny, the work experience youth, who's standard response to every request was basically "...but that's soooooo unfair...", "... you're not my parents..." and (I quote) "... if I serve you that you'll be here for - like - another hour..." :'D

Bentley's is weird like that - the food and service is usually great, but on two occasions that I've been there, I've had hideous cr4p served by disinterested muppets. It's like they have different teams in the kitchen and dining room on different days, and one bunch is the remedial team :hat:

Haven't been there yet, have they any good lunch deals?

Ate in l'ecrivain for lunch there a few weeks ago, for an astonishing 25 quid 3 course menu. (Still ended up costing 100 beans of course - Goddamn wine list :D!).

Savage value in proper fine dining in the capital these days. - Puts 12.50 and the like for a scaldy panini surrounded by half a packet of Hunky Dory's into perspective:rolleyes:

I love Richard Corrigan - from Lindsay House to Corrigans Mayfair (fab food there last Saturday).

Bentleys - hhhmmmm. Had lunch. Great starter, fab wine - wife sent her main back to the kitchen. Replacement was fab.

If it is not what it should be - send it back. They learn, you get an interesting meal.

Troubled by the lack of ** food in Dublin.

Foody in London.

Bentleys - Head Chef Sean is a mate of mine. He works 12 hour days 6 days a week. Corrigan rarely shows his face. If you saw the size of the kitchen you'd be amazed anything gets served from it at all. I've never had a bad experience there, but then I do get the 5* treatment.

Ok Ronnie, do we see a pattern developing here yet? ;)

Lunch deal was quite good, I think it was 2 courses for 19.95 or 3 for 22.95 or something like that. The good thing is the menu is not one of these abbreviated menus with smaller portions or whatever compared to the main menu. Its a single menu. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their food.

Hehe, no, it was sort of funny in hindsight, he was (genuinely) about 22 and obviously wanted the last 4 people in the place to feck off so he could go home, but didn't have the cop on not to say it out loud ;) He was very much Kevin the Teenager with a badly fitting tux

Hehe, but otherwise did you enjoy it?

Yes, I fear I had serious plate envy from my dining companions though - I had a lamb mixed grill which on paper sounded fabulous but in comparison to some of the steak and fish on the table was a little lacking; the flaw with having the same meat presented 4 ways is that you are always going to prefer one of them, and secretly wish the whole meal consisted of that !

The fact I was on a semi-date and that my ex was constantly texting me throughout telling me that she hoped I choked didn't help make it the ultimate dining experience, though

But jonny the teenage waiter was pretty priceless. I tried to order cigars from him, chose from the menu and went "two of those, please". Jonny returns "Ah, we've only like one of them, but you can have one of these if you want". What I'd chosen was €12. What Jonny was recommending was €26. "So can I have the one you're recommending for €12 then ?" Jonny actually snorts out loud "Nooooo! Are you crazy ?".

Bless.
