I installed XP SP2 on a Sony Vaio laptop and now it's phooked.... :melon:
I just uninstalled the service pack, but I'd like to know what the hell went wrong...
After installing sp2, it booted, I clieck on the admin user icon, and then the screen went blue, not like a BSOD, but a kinda background blue.
The only way I could get the control panel up was via safe mode.

Any ideas?

Will do Fizzy, I'll bin that free SP2 disk I have so.

I fixed up the laptop eventually, it had 8 viruses...blaster, dumaru, sdbot,....and 60 pieces of malware. The machine was riddled with virsues and worms.

Keep the disk I'm sure they'll have a few hotfixes for it in the not too distant future..

I've got SP2 working like a dream on my PC at the moment. However it didn't work first time. What I had to do was wipe my system partition and then reinstall XP from scratch then install SP2 and it worked a treat. Of course its no problem for me to wipe my system partition because I have my drives partitioned to I can wipe the system partition and not lose any data which I keep on my other partitions.

You sound like an informed user, shame most users aren't more like that.

I've just spent 5 hours fixing a rebuilt PC. W2K installer would do a 100% FAT format and then fail, it did this on all the 3 drives. So I went for NTFS and it installed. However within 30 seconds of going online, the local security authority subsystem went down because of an RPC vulnerabilty (despite all having being formatted). Anyway, avg, sophos and kerio later, all's working well. I tried a shutdown -a to abort the reboot, but I guess W2K doesn't have that nice feature.
