Anyone see these up close? Seem reasonably priced, if they're any good!

None Irish specific, yet.

MAnufactured by Tiger it seems, this isn't they're first attempt at a multi-function gaming device. The first one called the game.com failed spectacularly, no wonder with a crap name like that. Tiger also used to make those little handeld LCD games where it was just one game built into a unit, remember those? Ah hours spent playing pole position in the back of class... happy days.. *drifts off into nostalgia*

Anyway, yeah the gizmondo seems good, if the GPS actually works well, then it might be worth buying.

How much are they actually retailing for? Seems to me like you'd be better off investing in a cheap, second-hand Ipaq, Dell Axiom etc and fitting a GPS card. That way you can always update the software and it'll be a far more functional piece of kit.

The latest big thing on the market seems to be the Blueberry phone (see the O2.ie website). Part PC, part mobile, and very cost effective. I'm getting lots of requests from people to 'forward a copy of all my mail to my Blueberry please' ;)

Happen to have an bit of an inside line in this Gizmondo.

Won't be in Ireland till late Q1 next year, they aren't manufacturing any significant volume till Mid-Jan.

As it is a gaming device primarily, the normal pda isn't a competitor as of yet. nVidia graphics chip makes it quite a cool piece of kit. They've lined up EA games and a lot of the X-box games to run on it. Quite closely aligned to Microsoft, who are viewing it as the closest thing to a portable x-box they have (for the moment).

Have been seeing prototypes for the last 6 months and seen a big progression. The lastest iteration is quite swish. Will be hoping to get one before Christmas to play with...

Distribution deals have been signed with music and upcoming announcements on movies rights aren't too far away.

They are working on a business version of it called the bizmondo, which is a blackberry (I always call it blueberry as well for some reason!) killer.

They have registered over 500K preorders based on a few TV ads alone... so all I need is for the share price to keep rising and I can stick meself down for 2 M5's and a nice pad in Shrewsbury road.
